Ten days after the world lost Dolly Parton, another member of her famously close family is sharing memories that reveal a side of the country legend fans rarely got to see.

This time, it’s Dolly’s nieces Heidi and Danielle Parton, who spoke publicly about their final memories with their aunt and the woman Dolly was when the cameras disappeared.

Dolly died on August 25 at age 80 following a brief battle with cancer. Since then, members of the Parton family have gradually begun sharing their own stories about the woman they knew simply as Aunt Dolly.

“We Were Just Regular Girls”

Danielle Parton remembered having lunch with Dolly earlier this year.

Despite being one of the most famous women in America, Dolly apparently never thought of herself that way.

When Danielle asked whether she considered herself famous, Dolly told her that she still thought of herself as the same girl who had grown up poor in Tennessee.

Away from the stage, their conversations could be surprisingly ordinary.

Danielle recalled talking with her aunt about fast food, family and everyday life, saying that when they were together, they were simply “regular girls.”

Heidi Remembers Their Final Heart-to-Heart

For Heidi Parton, one of her most precious memories is a private conversation about her own music career.

After Heidi released her album Reflections in 2025, she sat down with Dolly for nearly an hour.

Dolly encouraged her niece to trust her talent and pursue the career she wanted.

For Heidi, that conversation means considerably more now.

She described Dolly as supportive and loving and said she is holding the memory especially close following her aunt’s death.

A Goodbye Few People Witnessed

Dolly had requested a small, private farewell rather than a huge celebrity funeral.

Danielle revealed that only about 10 people attended the intimate ceremony where Dolly was laid to rest beside her husband of 59 years, Carl Dean, who died in 2025.

Seeing her aunt peaceful brought Danielle a measure of comfort.

After decades of concerts, recording sessions, business meetings, charity work and millions of people wanting just a moment of her attention, Danielle felt Dolly had finally earned some peace.
