McConaughey and Harrelson are starring together in a new Apple TV comedy inspired directly by the possibility that they could actually share DNA.

Titled Brothers, the eight-episode series sees the longtime friends play fictionalized versions of themselves.

Their friendship is thrown into chaos after a decades-old family secret raises the possibility that the two men might really be brothers.

In the show, Harrelson takes his family to McConaughey’s Texas ranch after his daughter’s wedding falls apart.

But the visit takes an unexpected turn when McConaughey’s fictional mom, Ma Mac, lets slip a long-buried family secret.

Holland Taylor plays Ma Mac, while Natalie Martinez and Brittany Ishibashi are also among the cast.

Apple released the official trailer on August 25, 2026.

The first two episodes of Brothers will premiere globally on September 23, 2026, followed by a new episode every Wednesday through November 4.

It might sound like the kind of premise somebody invented specifically for television.

But the central mystery really did happen.

In fact, the series openly acknowledges its unusual inspiration.

Every episode begins with the line: “Based on a true rumor.”

And with their possible biological connection now forming the basis of an entire TV series, fans could reasonably assume McConaughey and Harrelson had finally settled the question behind the scenes.
