    Fran Drescher\u2019s\u00a0series\u00a0The Nanny<\/em>\u00a0may have gone off the air in 1999, but her character\u2019s fab fashion left an indelible mark on pop culture \u2014\u00a0and now singers like Sabrina Carpenter and Rosal\u00eda are rewearing fits that were made famous on the show.<\/p>\n

    \u201cRosal\u00eda has been wearing the dress that I wore in the Bette Midler episode, which has a little,\u00a0like pleated keyboard\u00a0from the piano dress and is so cute,\u201d Drescher, 68, says of the Moschino number.<\/p>\n

    \u201cAnd Sabrina Carpenter, who bought that [leopard lined] dress, which is Bob Mackie, actually let us borrow it for the Fran Drescher retrospective at the Hollywood Museum. And on\u00a0social media, there are also all these mashups of different shows with me in all the different outfits.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Did Drescher herself she keep any items?<\/p>\n

    \u201cI did keep some stuff,\u201d she says. \u201cI kept the winter coat I wore in the skiing episode. It\u2019s Anna Sui and so gorgeous. It was very expensive. I remember we cut corners in other areas so we could afford that coat.\u201d<\/p>\n

    \u201cI have some over-the-knee suede wedgie boots, some high platform suede zip-up boots. A couple of turtlenecks. But I\u2019m not wearing hot pants or miniskirts anymore! Although now that I\u2019m thinner again I could come close to fitting in them,\u201d she continues.<\/p>\n

    As for where all the other clothes are now, sadly, Drescher doesn\u2019t totally know.<\/p>\n

    \u201cSony didn\u2019t create an archival collection, which they should have, but they didn\u2019t know what they had at the time. They couldn\u2019t see the future. And so, it ended up out there in a million different places.\u201d In some cases, in the hands of\u00a0Nanny<\/em>\u00a0fans.<\/p>\n

    \u201cThere\u2019s a guy in Germany who goes by Nanny Schmatta or something, who keeps buying and collecting the clothes, and he does a traveling show,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

    Drescher tells PEOPLE that at the time she filmed the show, some labels were thrilled to lend their looks for Fran Fine to wear. \u201cIt was designers Moschino, Dolce & Gabbana, Todd Oldham,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd we wore them all.\u201d<\/p>\n

    She notes that the reason her character \u2014 a live-in caretaker for the kids of a wealthy Broadway producer \u2014 was able to look so stylish on a babysitter\u2019s budget is simple: She shopped at designer deal department store Loehmann\u2019s.<\/p>\n

    \u201cI was always into fashion, as was Peter [her ex-husband and co-creator of\u00a0The Nanny<\/em>.] So Peter and I knew that this character, even though she was from the wrong side of the tracks, she didn\u2019t have money, she didn\u2019t have education, and was going to wear phenomenal clothes. And in Queens, there was a store that no longer exists called Loehmann\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n

    She continues, \u201cNow, the thing about Loehmann\u2019s was they cut out the labels, but they had a lot of designer stuff, if you could recognize what it was. So of course, Fran Fine was able to do that. So that was our rationalization for dressing the way she did because she shopped at Loehmann\u2019s. And we talked about it all the time on the series.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Fran Fine\u2019s obsession with Loehmann\u2019s, which went out of business in 2018, even made it into the very first episode.<\/p>\n

    \u201cIn the pilot, the father says, \u2018Oh, you look beautiful, Gracie.\u2019 And she says, \u2018Loehmann\u2019s, 50 percent off.\u2019 And Fran says, \u2018She\u2019ll never shop retail again.’\u201d<\/p>\n
