Now, over 44 years after the fact, interested parties can still take home a souvenir from the occasion\u2014but it\u2019ll cost you a cool $95,000.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_4-0\">According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/style\/story\/princess-diana-and-prince-charles-wedding-champagne-up-for-auction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\"><em>Vanity Fair<\/em><\/a>, the former Prince and Princess of Wales\u2019s wedding champagne is up for auction, a magnum of Dom P\u00e9rignon Vintage 1961 that was served on their wedding day (with 1961 marking the year of Diana\u2019s birth\u2014she had just turned 20 years old when she walked down the aisle). The bottle is only one of 12 in existence and is expected to net up to $95,000.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"mntl-sc-block_6-0\"><figcaption id=\"mntl-figure-caption_1-0\">Prince Charles and Princess Diana on their wedding day.Getty<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_7-0\">The auction is happening on December 11 and is put on by Bruun Rasmussen at Kongens Lyngby, a Danish auction house on the outskirts of Copenhagen, according to\u00a0<em>Vanity Fair<\/em>. It is labeled, appropriately, \u201cShipped specially in honor of the wedding of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer, July 29, 1981.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_9-0\">\u201cThere are only 12 magnums available, and this is one of them,\u201d Bruun Rasmussen\u2019s wine manager Thomas Rosendahl Andersen told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrons.com\/news\/charles-and-diana-s-rare-wedding-champagne-to-be-auctioned-8615940f?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=AWEtsqc05_iLxOolGxMBrgNHv2oIo_q8L820dK7_9zCdA7lbqIQs-yMp48LPzJDMlM8%3D&amp;gaa_ts=69384afb&amp;gaa_sig=QyjKiy644Cr2qQDEjtqOgxntX_uUo2v3zoAR-CUulnweqLAx6rMgssR9r0Fn0vjSUnSWiMCd0gdg4VChtx6k7A%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">AFP<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s perfectly drinkable.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"mntl-sc-block_11-0\"><figcaption id=\"mntl-figure-caption_2-0\">Princess Diana and Prince Charles on July 29, 1981.Getty<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_12-0\">\u201cAll the bottles of wine we sell at auction are examined and analyzed,\u201d he continued. \u201cFor this type of bottle, we carry out several tests, including illuminating the bottle to check that the contents, i.e. the wine itself, has a very nice, clear color, and that it\u2019s not brown and cloudy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_14-0\">As for who might bid on the bottle, \u201cIt could be a classic wine collector who finds it amusing to have this bottle in his collection, but also a collector of royal objects, who collects items perhaps related to Lady Diana or English royal memorabilia,\u201d Andersen added.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"mntl-sc-block_18-0\"><figcaption id=\"mntl-figure-caption_3-0\">Princess Diana and Prince Charles.Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_19-0\">The bottle\u2019s potential $95,000 price tag is far higher than a slice of cake from the wedding that sold for over $3,000 in July 2021, at what would have been Charles and Diana\u2019s 40th anniversary. The bottle is being sold by an anonymous collector who bought the magnum from a London dealer, AFP reported.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_21-0\">Despite Charles and Diana\u2019s wedding being called \u201cthe stuff of which fairytales are made\u201d by Archbishop of Canterbury Robert Runcie as he married them, Diana had numerous trepidations about marrying Charles ahead of the ceremony, including confessing her fears to her sisters and her father. She sadly later described her wedding day as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instyle.com\/princess-diana-wedding-day-worst-day-of-life-11780761\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">\u201cworst day of my life\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and said she felt like \u201ca lamb to the slaughter\u201d as she walked down the aisle.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"mntl-sc-block_23-0\"><figcaption id=\"mntl-figure-caption_4-0\">Princess Diana on her July 29, 1981 wedding day.Getty<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_24-0\">Yet, at such a tender age, Diana was young enough to still be hopeful that it could all work out as soon as she and Charles said \u201cI do.\u201d She told her biographer Andrew Morton that, on their wedding day, \u201cI remember being so in love with my husband that I couldn\u2019t take my eyes off him. I just absolutely thought I was the luckiest girl in the world.
