Hal Williams has been in the business for decades. He played Harley Foster on\u00a0The Waltons<\/a><\/em>\u00a0and later appeared on\u00a0227, The Sinbad Show<\/em>, and\u00a0Sanford and Son<\/em>. He only appeared in seven episodes on\u00a0The Waltons<\/em>\u00a0but his character truly became iconic in the wholesome show.<\/p>\n

Before becoming an actor, he actually worked as a postal worker. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career and his\u00a0Waltons<\/em>\u00a0gig was actually only his second TV role. He also appeared on\u00a0Roots: The Next Generation<\/em>\u00a0and films such as\u00a0Guess Who<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Private Benjamin<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Hal once shared that he wants to be remembered for his more dramatic roles. He\u00a0said<\/a>, \u201cPeople don\u2019t realize that I\u2019m a serious actor. I played the grandfather in \u2018Roots,\u2019 I was in \u2018Harry O\u2019 with David Janssen\u2014I did other dramatic shows. I did five years on \u2018The Waltons.\u2019 I\u2019ve always tried to keep a foot in both camps. And it\u2019s hard to fight the pigeon-holing that goes on \u2026 but in all those comedies, you have to remember one thing: I wasn\u2019t the funny guy. I was the straight guy in the middle of all the madness.\u201d<\/p>\n

As far as his personal life goes, Hal tends to keep that private. He has been married twice and has three children. He occasionally shares photos of his family on Instagram but generally keeps them close to his heart.<\/p>\n

He said he loves being recognized by fans and knowing that he\u2019s still relevant. Hal shared, \u201cOne of the things that keeps me going is the people. Perfect strangers are so gracious at airports, grocery stores, everywhere I go. I hear more people saying they grew up with me. I appreciate and love all of them.\u201d<\/p>\n
