Danny DeVito has spent more than five decades making audiences laugh.<\/p>\n
From\u00a0Taxi<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Twins<\/em>\u00a0to\u00a0Matilda<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0It\u2019s Always Sunny in Philadelphia<\/em>, his unmistakable personality has made him one of Hollywood\u2019s most recognizable stars.<\/p>\n But at 81, DeVito is looking back at something far more personal than his movies.<\/p>\n He\u2019s talking about\u00a0Rhea Perlman \u2014 the woman he fell in love with more than half a century ago.<\/strong><\/p>\n And their relationship today isn\u2019t quite what many fans might expect.<\/p>\n DeVito and Perlman first met in\u00a01971<\/strong>, when Perlman went to see a friend performing in an off-Broadway production that happened to feature DeVito.<\/p>\n After the show, they went out together.<\/p>\n Something clicked almost immediately.<\/p>\n \u201cWe hit it off,\u201d DeVito recently recalled.<\/p>\n They shared a love of movies and theater and even began making little short films together.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had a lot in common, and we fell in love,\u201d DeVito said.<\/p>\n The couple eventually married in\u00a01982<\/strong>\u00a0and welcomed three children together: Lucy, Grace and Jacob.<\/p>\n Hollywood would come to know them individually as major stars.<\/p>\n DeVito became unforgettable as Louie De Palma on\u00a0Taxi<\/em>, while Perlman became one of television\u2019s most beloved sitcom actresses as Carla Tortelli on\u00a0Cheers<\/em>.<\/p>\n They even shared the screen memorably as Harry and Zinnia Wormwood in the 1996 family favorite\u00a0Matilda<\/em>.<\/p>\n But behind the Hollywood success was a relationship that would eventually change.<\/p>\n DeVito and Perlman first separated in 2012 before reconciling.
